Dissociation and keto-enol tautomerism of phloroglucinol and its anions lead to the formation of ten species with different degrees of dissociation and conjugation. The equilibria between these species have been determined by applying kinetic techniques. The transition from the phenolic to the ketonic forms is connected with the protonation of the aromatic ring and leads to the formation of σ-complexes
