Calix[4]arene, diametrically substituted at the upper rim, with two porphyrin appended melamine units spontaneously form well-defined double rosette in the presence of 5,5-diethylbarbituric acid. This assembly consists of nine components which utilize 36 hydrogen bonds and are quite stable in apolar solvents of up to 10−4 M concentration.
