Due to the lability of one of the CO ligands in trans-[Fe(PNP)-(CO) 2 CI] + this compound is an efficient catalyst for the coupling of a series of aromatic aldehydes with ethyl diazoacetate (EDA), which give, in most cases, selectively 3-hydroxyacrylates rather than β-oxo esters. synthesizing racemic arylpropanoic acids, which have been widely used as nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The synthesis involves only four steps from commercially available benzaldehyde. The synthesis incorporates an unprecedented reduction reaction, conversion of 3‐hydroxy‐2‐arylpropenoic acidethylester to 2‐arylpropenoic acidethylester by BH3⋅THF. The reduction reaction has been investigated
