Synthesis and characterisation of ring-substituted POCOP halide complexes of group 10 metals

The synthesis and full characterisation of a series of ring-substituted (POCOPtBu)-P-tBu halide complexes of group 10 metals [3,5-R-2(tBupocop(tBu))MX] (3,5-R-2((POCOPtBu)-P-tBu) =k(3)-C5HR2-2,6-(OPtBu2)(2) with R = tBu, COOMe; X = Cl, 1; M = Ni, Pd, Pt) are described. The structure of all complexes was confirmed by X-ray crystal structure analysis. DFT analysis to evaluate the electronic influence of the tBu and COOMe substituents was performed. Homocoupling of benzyl halides catalyzed by POCOP–nickel pincer complexes

Two types of POCOP-nickel(II) pincer complexes were prepared by mixing POCOP pincer ligands and NiX2 in toluene at reflux. The resulting nickel complexes efficiently catalyze the homocoupling reactions of benzyl halides in the presence of zinc. The coupled products were obtained in excellent to quantitative yields.
