Alkylidene- and allylidenecyclopropanes are prepared by treating the intermediates formed upon addition of aldehydes to α-lithio(cyclopropyl)silanes with potassiumtert-butoxide.

Allylidenecyclopropanes are oxidized with mCPBA to give, after rearrangement, 2-vinylcyclobutanones in moderate to high yields; 2-aryl-, including 2-(2-furyl)-, cyclobutanones are prepared in an analogous fashion.
