  The reaction of (1,3-(Bu2C5H3)-Bu-t)(2)Yb . OEt2 with (AlBu3)-Bu-i in the presence of hexene-1 and hydrogen gave in high yield (eta(5)-1,3-(Bu2C5H3)-Bu-t)(3)Yb (1). The treatment of (1,3-(Bu2C5H3)-Bu-t)(2)Yb . OEt2 with AlD3. Et2O or AlD2(1,3-(Bu2C5H3)-Bu-t). Et2O in diethyl ether yielded the novel hetero-metallic complex (eta(5)-1,3-(Bu2C5H3)-Bu-t)(2)Yb(mu-D)(2)Al(eta(2)-1,3-(Bu2C5H3)-Bu-t) (2). The crystal structures of complexes 1 and 2 are reported. The containing an Yb(+2) and a three-coordinate Al atoms complex 2 is supposed to be stable due to interaction of pi-electrons of the 'allyl' group of the eta(2)-bonded Cp ring with unoccupied orbitals of the aluminium atom.
