    Disclosed herein are a method for producing a fiber-reinforced thermally meltable epoxy resin having excellent heat resistance using a thermally meltable epoxy resin having a high melting initiation temperature and a fiber-reinforced plastic molded by the method. The method for producing a fiber-reinforced thermally meltable epoxy resin comprises the steps of: (I) impregnating reinforcing fibers with a compound (A) having two epoxy groups in one molecule and a compound (B) having two phenolic hydroxyl groups in one molecule; and (II) linearly polymerizing the compounds (A) and (B) impregnated into the reinforcing fibers by polyaddition reaction, wherein at least a part of the compound (A) and/or at least a part of the compound (B) are/is a compound having a fluorene skeleton, and the compound (A) and the compound (B) are mixed in such a ratio that the number of moles of epoxy groups in the compound (A) is 0.9 to 1.1 times the number of moles of phenolic hydroxyl groups in the compound (B).

    An in-situ polymerized type thermoplastic prepreg is provided, which is excellent in productivity, has tack properties and drape properties that allow easy shaping in a mold, is excellent in handling properties, and allows a molded product obtained by curing to have both mechanical properties as high as those of a thermosetting composite and the features of the thermoplastic composite. An in-situ polymerized type thermoplastic prepreg 1 includes reinforcing fibers 2 and an in-situ polymerized type thermoplastic epoxy resin 3 as a matrix resin. The in-situ polymerized type thermoplastic epoxy resin 3 is cured to B-stage, with the weight-average molecular weight being 6,000 or less, and has tack properties and drape properties at 30°C or less, and the in-situ polymerized type thermoplastic epoxy resin after curing has a weight-average molecular weight of 30,000 or more.

    Methods for manufacturing an in-situ polymerized type thermoplastic prepreg, which is excellent in productivity has tack properties and drape properties that allow easy shaping in a mold, is excellent in handling properties, and allows a molded product obtained by curing to have both mechanical properties as high as those of a thermosetting composite and the features of the thermoplastic composite. The method comprises (a) preparing an in-situ polymerized thermoplastic epoxy resin having two functional groups, applying it onto a release sheet while adjusting the temperature of the resin at 40-70°C, polymerize to cure to the B-stage while maintaining the temperature of the resin at 25-40°C for 50-240 hours and impregnating the reinforcing fibers or (b) preparing an in-situ polymerized thermoplastic epoxy resin having two functional groups, polymerize to cure to the B-stage while maintaining the temperature of the resin at 25-40°C for 50-240 hours, applying it onto a release sheet while adjusting the temperature of the resin at 40-80°C and impregnating the reinforcing fibers.
