    Coordinated fullerene acts as a hydrogen acceptor in reactions with compounds having weakened C-H bonds (1,4-dihydropyridine and 9,10-dihydroanthracene). Metal fullerides are the dehydrogenation catalysts. They activate the C-H bonds of dihydroanthracene and diethyl 2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate in positions 9,10 and 1,4, respectively. No activation of norbornane carbon-hydrogen bonds with metal fullerides was observed under mild conditions.

    Single-stage plasma-arc synthesis of metallo-endofullerenes of the types C60Pd, C60Ni, and C60Cr, whose content in a mixture of extracted fullerenes was 0.05 to 0.15 wt %, was performed. The effect of introduction of these metals into the reaction plasma on the total yield of fullerenes and on the fraction composition of the fullerene mixture was studied. The fullerene mixtures were analyzed by mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography.

    We have measured the real components of the third-order optical nonlinearity of organometallic compound films of C60M2 (M = Pd, Pt, and Sm) by using the femtosecond optically heterodyned optical Kerr effect at 647.0 nm. The results show that there is an enhancement of the real components of the third-order optical nonlinearity of C60M2 films compared to that of pristine C-60 film. We attribute the origin of this enhancement to the charge transfer from the metal atoms to the C-60 molecules. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
