A process for producing aromatic polyamide fiber, which comprises the first step of impregnating the fiber with an epoxy treatment containing an aromatic glycidylamine having two or more epoxy groups in its molecule and an aromatic amine in a specified ratio, followed by drying and curing, and the second step of immersing the resulting fiber in a second-step treatment containing resorcinol/formaldehyde resin and rubber latex, followed by drying and curing. Preferably, the second step treatment contains a specified chlorophenol compound. When used for reinforcing rubber, this fiber has a high initial adhesive strength and gives highly water-resistant rubber products wherein the adhesive strength lowers only little even after prolonged immersion in water.
