Angular-pyridoquinolone and pyridocoumarin derivatives have been efficiently synthesized in 60-95% yields by molecular iodine-mediated cyclization of easily available starting materials, 6-(N-propargyl)amino quinolone and coumarin derivatives, in the presence of NaHCO(3).
