The binuclear complexes [M(CO)3}2(μ-diphos)] (M = Mo or W; diphos = mtppm, mtppe or iptppe) (X-ray structure for M = W, diphos = mtppe), [M(CO)4}2 (μ-dppmpe)] and [MBr2(CO)2}2(μ-mtppe)], and the mononuclear compounds [M(CO)4(dbtpe)] and [MoBr2(CO)2(mtppe)] have been prepared.

Treatment of [RhCl(CO)2}2] with the functionalised diphosphines (C6H4SMe-2)2PCH2P(C6H4SMe-2)2 (mtppm) and (C7H4NS)2PCH2P(C7H4NS)2 (dbtpm) gives the binuclear complexes [ClRh(mu-CO)(mu-mtppm)2Rh(CO)]Cl (A) and cis-[RhCl(CO)}2(mu-dbtpm)2] (B) respectively. The structure of B has been confirmed by an X-ray structure determination which shows the essentially square-planar rhodium atoms to be ligated by a terminal chloride, a terminal carbonyl trans to the chloride, and a phosphorus from each of two bridging dbtpm ligands; the planes about the two Rh atoms are 13-degrees from being eclipsed.
