    The present invention is directed to a novel class of antimicrobial agents called γ-AApeptides. The current invention provides various categories of γ-AApeptides, for example, linear γ-AApeptides, cyclic γ-AApeptides, and lipidated γ-AApeptides. γ-AApeptides of the current invention are designed to exert antimicrobial activity while being stable and non-toxic. γ-AApeptides also do not appear to lead to the development of microbial resistance in treated microorganisms. Thus, the disclosed γ-AApeptides can be used for the treatment of various medical conditions associated with pathogenic microorganisms.

    The present invention relates to the preparation of compositions comprising benzoyl peroxide, with or without other additional active ingredients. The process involves introducing benzoyl peroxide, along with any other active ingredients present, into a fatty substance that contains and protects the ingredients that would otherwise be unstable when in contact with one another. The composition is designed to allow all ingredients to become available for skin contact or skin absorption when the fatty substance softens and/or melts as the composition is applied to the skin. The benzoyl peroxide may be pre-micronized to a particle distribution size of about d 90 of 0.1 to 150 microns, preferably d 90 of 10 to 15 microns. Further, pharmaceutical or cosmetic ingredients may be contained within the fatty substances, with or without, benzoyl peroxide therein or may be present outside of the fatty substance but elsewhere within formulated pharmaceutical or cosmetic products using the active ingredients protected by the fatty substance. These compositions are useful in aqueous-based formulations to treat diseases by topical, transdermal and/or subcutaneous administration.

    The present invention provides novel “patch in a bottle” technology in which a fluid composition, e.g., an aerosol spray, is applied onto a surface as a fluid, but then dries to form a covering element, such as a patch, having a tack free outer surface covering an underlying adhesive that helps adhere the patch to the substrate. The fluid compositions have a unique chemical formulation that allows such composite patches to form in situ. Specifically, the fluid compositions include a tacky component, such as an adhesive, and a film-forming, non-tacky component. The non-tacky and tacky components are selected to be immiscible with each other so that the components undergo phase separation as the fluid composition dries.
