K3PO4-mediated one-pot synthesis of symmetrical trithiocarbonates

A new procedure has been developed for synthesis of symmetrical trithiocarbonates by one-pot reaction of carbon disulfide, and various alkyl halides in dimethylformamide using K3PO4 as an inexpensive and effective reagent.

Symmetricaldialkyltrithiocarbonates were readily synthesized in excellent yields by one-step reaction of carbon disulfide and various alkyl halides under mild reaction conditions in the presence of cesium hydroxide as a super basic system. This method provides a synthesis of symmetricaldialkyltrithiocarbonates in short reaction times without the use of highly toxic starting materials. GRAPHICAL
