    A new method for the cyanation of thiols and disulfides using cyanobenziodoxol(on)e hypervalent iodine reagents is described. Both aliphatic and aromatic thiocyanates can be accessed in good yields in a few minutes at room temperature starting from a broad range of thiols with high chemioselectivity.     Chloro-, bromo- and thiocyanatoarylation of amides and nitriles of acrylic and methacrylic acids with bisdiazonium salts based on m- and p-phenylenediamines have been studied. 3,3′-[1,4(3)-phenylene]bis[2-halopropanamides(nitriles)] and 2-thiocyanato-(2-methyl)-3-[4(3)-thiocyanatophenyl]propinamides have been obtained as bishaloarylation and monothiocyanatoarylation products, respectively.

    A method is provided for the direct synthesis of novel polymeric materials functionalized with desirable nitrogen-containing functional groups such as terminal azido, cuano, carbonylamino or thiocarbonylamino groups. Polymerization and functionalization occur in a substantially simultaneous manner. All necessary reactants for the functionalization are present when polymerization is initiated. The nitrogen-containing functional group is provided as a part of a molecule having a release moiety which is preferably resonance stabilized or of tertiary alkyl type and which acts to aid the nitrogen-containing species in functioning as a leaving group.

    A polycarbonate which is stable against thermal decomposition at a temperature range for melt molding without adding a heat resistant stabilizer and suitable for the melt molding of a thin product, production method and molded products thereof. The polycarbonate is comprising mainly a recurring unit represented by the following formula (1), and has a percentage of the total of integrated intensities of all signals detected at four ranges, δ = 2.14 to 2.17 ppm, δ = 3.46 to 3.49 ppm, δ = 3.62 to 3.69 ppm and δ = 5.42 to 5.46 ppm to the integrated intensity of a signal derived from a methyl group detected at a range of δ = 1.50 to 2.00 ppm of 0.01 to 2.0 % in its 1H-NMR spectrum in heavy chloroform and a viscosity average molecular weight of 10,000 to 100,000.
