    Antimicrobial activities of the bromophenols from the red alga Odonthalia corymbifera and some synthetic derivatives
    摘要:
    A series of bromophenols was obtained by isolation from red alga Odonthalia corymbifera and by reactions of bis(hydroxyphenyl)methanes with bromine. New bromophenols including 3,3,5,5'-tetrabromo-2,2',4,4'-tetrahydroxydiphenylmethane (10), a regioisomer of the potent antimicrobial natural product, together with known derivatives were synthesized in high yield. All of the isolated and synthesized compounds were tested for antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacteria and fungi. The preliminary structure-activity relationship, to elucidate the essential structure requirements for antimicrobial activity, has been described. Among the isolated natural products 2,2',3,3'-tetrabromo-4,4',5,5'-tetrahydroxydiphenylmethane (4) was found to be the most active derivative against Candida albicans, Aspergillus fumigatus, Trichophyton rubrum, and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. The synthetic bromophenols 3,3'-dibromo-6,6'-dihydroxydiphenylmethane (13) and 3,3',5,5'-tetrabromo-6, 6'-dihydroxydiphenylmethane (14) showed potent antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus.     A halogenated copolycarbonate, which contains reduced levels of Phenolic (-OH) End Groups and end groups which result from side reactions of process chemicals with the copolycarbonate chain (Process Chemical End Groups), has improved resistance to the degradation-inducing effects of such end groups and has improved washability. Such a halogenated copolycarbonate is characterized in that it (a) has a Phenolic End Group content of less than 275 ppm, (b) has a content of less than 90 ppm of the element of Process Chemical End Groups which is bonded to a copolycarbonate chain end, and (c) produces less than 0.5 absorbance units, per mole fraction of halogenated diphenol in the copolycarbonate, when measured on a spectrophotometer at 420 nm after the halogenated copolycarbonate has been heated for thirty minutes at 300°C and then dissolved in an organic solvent.

    A polyestercarbonate copolymer blend which exhibits a glass transition temperature lower than bisphenol-A carbonate homopolymer, shows good processability and fire-retardancy. The desired lower Tg and improved flow can be achieved by the polycondensation of a dihydric phenol and aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. The condensate is polymerized with a carbonate forming reagent. The resin is fire-retarded with a mixture of halogenated polycarbonate, potassium diphenylsulfone sulfonate and polytetrafluoroethylene.
