Highly atom-efficient oxidation of sulfides into sulfones under solvent- and catalyst-free reaction conditions using a 30% aqueous solution of H2O2 at 75 °C is reported. A structurally diverse set of phenyl alkyl-, phenyl benzyl-, benzyl alkyl-, dialkyl-, heteroaryl alkyl- and cyclic sulfides were transformed into sulfones regardless of the aggregate state and electronic nature of the substituents
Es wird die Herstellung einiger 1-Methyl-4-phenyl-piperidin-(4)-alkylsulfone beschrieben. Durch Behandlung mit 50-proz. Schwefelsäure wird die Alkylsulfon-Gruppe in ähnlicher Weise wie bei den von Klenk und Mitarbeitern(1) hergestellten Benzhydryl-alkylsulfonen(2) unter Bildung einer Doppelbindung am quaternären C-Atom des Piperidinringes abgespalten. Abstract A palladium-catalyzedcross-coupling of benzyl trimethylammonium triflates and sulfonyl hydrazides for the synthesis of various benzyl sulfones is reported. This novel protocol shows widespread functional group tolerance, leading to the desired sulfones in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract Sulfonated condensed polynuclear aromatic (S-COPNA) resin was found to be a highly efficient, environmentally friendly, recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for the oxidation of alkyl and aryl sulfides to the corresponding sulfoxides or sulfones, in good yields under mild reaction conditions using 30% hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant. The addition of Grignardreagents or organolithiumreagents to the SO2-surrogate DABSO generates a diverse set of metal sulfinates, suitable for direct conversion to sulfone products. The metal sulfinates can be trapped in situ with a wide range of C-electrophiles, including alkyl, allyl, and benzyl halides, epoxides, and (hetero)aryliodoniums.
