[η3-Allyl-NiCl]2 reacts at −78°C with 1-norLi (2) (1-nor = 1-norbornyl = bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-1-yl) to give the highly unstable η3-allyl-Ni(1-nor) which decomposes rapidly under formation of nickel. The results of a systematic variation of achiral monodentate ligands used for the Pd-catalyzed alkylation of crotyl and 3-buten-2-yl acetates and carbonates are presented. A significant degree of retention of regiochemistry and stereochemistry was observed for these substrates, especially for nonracemic 3-buten-2-yl ethyl carbonate with PCyxPh3-x and carbene ligands.
