New mercury derivatives of cycloazathianes have been prepared: viz, inorganic mercury derivaties of 1,4- and 1,5-(HN)2S6; (PhHgN)S7 and 1,3-, 1,4-, and 1,5-(PhHgN)2S6; and (MeHgN)S7 and and 1,4-(MeHgN)2S6. The compounds are readily isolated but decompose at room temperature at varying rates, giving rise to mixtures of known sulphur nitrides. The decomposition products were unsuccessfully examined for

prepared by the reaction of pentafluorobenzenesulfenyl chloride with N-sulfinyltrimethylsilylamine. Furthermore the reaction of bis(pentafluorophenylthio)amine with thionyl chloride and the reactions of pentafluorobenzenesulfenamide with sulfur dichloride and sulfurtetrafluoride were investigated.

(PhHgN)S7(I), with hydrogen chloride and with various covalent halides of the elements of periodic Groups 3–6 is described. In some cases reaction occurs with formation of (NS7) derivatives of the halides. With iodine, (I) gives mainly nitrides of the series (S7N)2Sx. The general pattern of reactivity of (I) have been established and its usefulness for the preparation of (NS7) derivatives assessed.

14 N and 15NNMRspectroscopy shows that the deprotonation of S7NH by potassium amide in liquid ammonia proceeds via the sequential formation of S7N–, S4N–, and S3N– to give S2N2H–, which subsequently decomposes to S3N3–; the S2N2H– ion is also produced by treatment of S4N4H4 with 2 mol equiv. of potassium amide in liquid ammonia.

The Pyrolysis of Heptathiazocine

Heptathiazocine was pyrolyzed into ammonia, tetrasulfurtetranitride, and tetrasulfur dinitride above 383 K in an argon atmosphere; then, the latter two intermediates finally degraded into sulfur and nitrogen. According to the stoichiometric correlation among the final pyrolytic products, an overall pyrolysis can be expressed as: S7NH=7/8 S8+1/3 N2+1/3 NH3. The differential scanning calorimetry of
