Synthesis of a series of novel fused pyrazolines and pyrazoles has been accomplished in good yields by regio- and diastereoselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of enamines of indan-1-one 1a-c towards C-aryl-N-phenylnitrilimines 2df. The structure of the cycloadducts was elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR studies.
Heterocyclic compounds selected from the group consisting of the compounds [IV] to [VII], [IX] and [X]. The heterocyclic compounds are useful for reactive materials in chemical industry and a process for producing the heterocyclic compounds.

From the cycloaddition of acetonitrile N-oxide with indene two isomeric methyldihydroindenoisoxazoles have been isolated. Elucidation of their structures by bromination and 1H n.m.r. spectroscopy, and related reactions on analogous compounds are described.
