    This work presents an efficient procedure for preparing acyl fluorides by simply reacting carboxylic acid with hydrogen fluoride-pyridine and 1,3-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) in dichloromethane. The acyl fluorides were converted in situ to the corresponding benzyl carboxylic esters by adding benzyl alcohol and triethylamine to the reaction mixture. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.     A modular synthesis of mycobactin T and its N-acetyl analogue is reported in a route that facilitates permutation of the lipid tails. A key feature is the generation of N(α)-Cbz-N(ε)-benzyloxy-N(ε)-Boc-lysine (A4) with methyl(trifluoromethyl)dioxirane in 59% yield.     Curable compositions comprising a polyphenylene ether resin free of substituents which inhibit free radicals are combined with a polyvinyl unsaturated compound, such as poly(bisphenol-A fumarate) or divinyl benzene, and, optionally liquid polymerizable unsaturated monovinyl monomers, such as styrene, and cured with an optional catalyst to produce crosslinked interpolymers more rapidly than in the prior art. Before curing, the compositions can be combined with flame retardants, reinforcing fillers and/or impact modifiers.
