    An efficient synthesis of polychlorinated diphenyl ethers (PCDEs) using the Cu(OAc)(2)-catalyzed Chan-Lam coupling reaction is described. A library of all possible mono- and dichlorinated diphenyl ether congeners was prepared and characterized using MS, H-1, and C-13 NMR spectroscopy, and Kovats retention indices. Our approach, using the optimized reaction conditions (i.e., reaction temperature, oxidizing atmosphere and base), significantly improves and simplifies the process compared to previously reported syntheses.     An alternative method for the synthesis of prostaglandin F analogues, in particular, analogues of PGF2α and specifically for the synthesis of latano-prost, wherein the transformation of the lactone intermediate (5) into the corresponding lactol (7) is carried out by treating the lactone intermediate (5) with a silane, preferably polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS), in the presence of a titanocene - and preferably titanocene fluoride. The method enables considerable production economies with respect to the conventional reduction of lactone with diisobutylaluminum hydride (DIBAL-H).

    Polyarylene thioethers are easily prepared by an oxidative polymerization of an aromatic compound of the formula (I) wherein R¹, R², R³ and R⁴ are each independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a lower alkoxy group, and Y is a hydrogen atom or a group of the formula (II) wherein R⁵, R⁶, R⁷ and R⁸ are each independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a lower alkoxy group and X is -O-, -S-, a methylene group or an ethylene group with a sulfidizing agent in the presence of an acid and an oxidizing agent, or in the presence of an acid, a catalyst for oxidative polymerization and oxygen, or in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst.
