triethylborane promotes double amphiphilic allylation of nitriles with 2-methylenepropane-1,3-diol to serve as a 1,3-dipolar equivalent, providing pyrrolizidine derivatives. The resulting bicyclic compounds can be used for efficient synthesis of important pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
