A convenient synthesis of substituted benzothiazoles has been accomplished by way of a copper catalyzed reaction of aromatic disulfide amines and aldehydes. The process, which involves copper catalyzed activation of disulfide functionality, proceeds in a tandem fashion via C–H bond activation, followed by aerobic oxidation of a resulting dihydrobenzothiazole intermediate. The scope and limitations
Isothiocyanobenzothiazoles are provided having the structure ##SPC1## Wherein R and R.sup.1 are as indicated below, and which are useful as anthelmintic agents.

An oxidative amidation of 2-methylpyridines/2-methylbenzimidazole with amines using copper acetate and elemental sulfur in DMSO to afford various N-(hetero)arylamides has been accomplished. Mechanistic studies reveal the intermediacy of N-(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)aniline and confirm the role of DMSO as the oxygen source.

chloro-bridged copper(II) complex of L2Cu2Cl4 composition [L stands for 2-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)-1,3-benzothiazole ligand] was obtained from CuCl2·2H2O and ligand L in ethanol. According to X-ray diffraction studies, the complex is a dimer with two bridgedchlorideligands and two chloride ions coordinated with only copper atom. Cyclic voltammetry demonstrated the stability of dimeric structure of the complex in DMF
