Synthesis and activities of naphthalimide azoles as a new type of antibacterial and antifungal agents

Naphthalimide-derived azoles as a new type of antimicrobial agents were synthesized and evaluated for their efficiency in vitro against eight bacteria and two fungi by two fold serial dilution technique. Most title compounds exhibited good antimicrobial potency with low MIC values ranging from 1 to 16 mu g/mL. Notably, some synthesized compounds displayed comparable or even better antibacterial and antifungal activities against some tested strains than the reference drugs Orbifloxacin, Chloromycin and Fluconazole, respectively. The present application relates to a novel family of cationic naphthalimide compounds that can be used as a direct dye, and to a dye composition for the dyeing of keratin fibres, in particular human keratin fibres such as the hair, comprising, in a suitable dyeing medium, at least one such compound.
The present application also relates to the dyeing process using this composition and its uses.
