    A comparison of the intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonding of N,N′-ethylenebis(aminobenzylidene) in the solid state with its salen analogue
    摘要:
    The crystal structure of H(2)amben has been elucidated for the first time. The close NH...N contact between neighbouring molecules supports strongly the notion that intermolecular hydrogen bonding exists within the crystal lattice, creating a series of molecular chains, which are crosslinked in a three-dimensional array. This intermolecular bonding is suggested to account for the anomalously high melting point of H(2)amben (176-178 degreesC) compared to its H(2)salen counterpart (126-128 degreesC). Although strong intramolecular forces are present in both ligands, H(2)salen contains no intermolecular hydrogen bonds. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

    A method for producing an aromatic compound polymer comprising oxidatively polymerizing one or more of aromatic compound(s) having two or more hydrogen atoms directly connected to aromatic ring(s), in the presence of an oxidizing agent, wherein the method employs a catalyst composed of a transition metal complex or a catalyst prepared from a transition metal complex and an activating agent, and said catalyst has a parameter P defined by the following formula (A) of 0.50 or more, and a parameter Eo defined by the following formula (B) of 0.50 [V] or more: P=Af/Ai (A) and Eo =( Epa+Epc )/2[V]  (B).

    A crosslinked polymer (A) which comprises, as essential structural units, units derived from (a) one or more vinyl monomers selected from the group consisting of water-soluble vinyl monomers and/or vinyl monomers which become water-soluble upon hydrolysis and units derived from (b) a crosslinking agent and which satisfies the following requirements: (1): (X) ≧ 25g/g, (2): (Y) ≧ 15g/g, and (3): (Y) ≧ -0.54 (X) + 41. It has exceedingly high water retentivity and exceedingly high absorbing power under load. When applied to an absorbent structure and an absorbent article, the polymer has excellent absorbing performance. In the relationships, (X) is the amount of physiological saline retained through 1-hour absorption and (Y) is the amount of physiological saline absorbed through 1-hour standing under a load of 60 g/cm2.
