Graphene oxide as a recyclable phase transfer catalyst

We demonstrated a simple and green chemical method to obtain Michael adducts and their derivatives by using GO as a phase transfer catalyst with different kinds of bases in water and dichloromethane, and we also used GO multiple cycles almost without reduction in reaction yields.

A catalyst for an organic reaction and a method of using a catalyst in an organic reaction are provided. The catalyst for an addition or condensation reaction includes a graphene oxide including an oxygen functional group, and the catalyst is configured to promote the addition or condensation reaction by bonding the oxygen functional group with an alkali metal ion or alkali earth metal ion during the addition or condensation reaction.

Résumés Anglais Français Two squaramide-containing organo-polyoxometalates (POMs) have been prepared, which efficiently catalyze the addition of dicarbonyl derivatives onto nitroolefins. The POM surface enhances the reactivity of the squaramide, and the hybrid acts as a bifunctional catalyst, where the highly charged POM surface in the organic medium is a base, which deprotonates the nucleophile and the squaramide activates the nitroalkenes via H-bonds. This opens new perspectives to POM-based catalysis. A task-specific ionic liquid (TSIL) has been introduced as a recyclable catalyst in Michael addition. A series of nitroalkenes and various C-based nucleophiles were reacted in the presence of 30 mol% of recyclable basic-functionalized ionic liquid. Good to excellent yields were obtained in 30 min under ultrasound irradiation. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
