A reversible electrochemical cell uses as electrode-active material a polymer of formula:
(R1 and R2 hydrogen, alkyl or alkoxy, m is 2 or more). The polymer is obtained by first forming a polymeric sulphonium salt of the general formula:
(R1 and R2 as defined, R3 and R4 C1-20 hydrocarbon, X a counter ion, and n ≥ m ≥ 2) and subjecting the polymeric sulphonium salt to decomposition treatment in an inert atmosphere.
