The infrared frequencies, intensities, and half-band widths of the fundamental stretching vibration of the hydroxyl group have been measured for a large number of ortho-alkyl phenols. It has been found that phenols containing a single ortho-alkyl substituent exist as cis and trans isomers in unequal amounts, the trans isomer being the more abundant. The difference in free energy between the two isomers

Abstract UDCaT-5, a modified version of zirconia, efficiently catalyzes alkylation of phenols with alcohols under environmentally safe, heterogeneous reaction conditions with high selectivity and in excellent yields. The high content present in UDCaT-5 with preservation of tetragonal phase of zirconia was responsible for the superactivity. Several phenolic compounds carrying either electron-sulfer

A heat resistant colorant for mass-coloring polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate, comprising pigments and/or dyes and 42-2,000 parts per 100 parts of pigments and/or dyes by weight of a dispersing medium having a hydroxyl value not exceeding 25 mgKOH/g. The dispersing medium comprises a liquid dispersing medium, such as polyether, polyether-ester and the like, and a liquid aliphatic polyester dispersing medium. The colorants of the invention are easily blended and uniformly dispersed in a shape grade polyester, without causing degradation of the polyester, and the polyester shaped articles, such as fibers and films, mass-colored by the colorant are excellent in stability during the manufacture and are uniform in quality.

A thermoplastic resin composition (molding material) which suppresses dynamic brittleness caused by a reduction in molecular weight when a thermoplastic resin such as a hydrogenated styrene polymer is melt molded and does not generate crazes even when it is used at an atmosphere of high temperature and high humidity, and a substrate for optical recording media, which is made from the same.
The thermoplastic resin composition comprises a thermoplastic polymer having an alicyclic group and an addition stabilizer which can undergo addition reaction with a radical formed by the cleavage of the thermoplastic polymer.
