Based on specific reactivity of the vinyloxy group to Hg2+ ions, a new ratiometric phenanthroimidazole‐based fluorescent sensor, 2‐(2‐(vinyloxy)phenyl)‐1 H‐phenanthro[9,10‐d]imidazole, is prepared.
