Various fluorinated homoallylic and homoprop-2-ynylic cyanides could be synthesized from 2-fluoro-2-phenylthio-2-phenylacetonitrile and some allylic or prop-2-ynylic chlorides in excellent yields by use of a germyl anion species.

Z‐olefins are important functional units in synthetic chemistry; their preparation has thus received considerable attention. Many prevailing methods for cis‐olefination are complicated by the presence of multiple unsaturated units or electrophilic functional groups. In this study, Z‐olefins are delivered through selective reduction of activated dienes using formic acid. The reaction proceeds with high

dichloromethane to give the acyclic adducts 6–10 in 64–91% yield. The orientation effects are in contrast to the predictions of perturbational molecular orbital theory and can be explained on the basis of steric effects.

The palladium-catalyzed cycloisomerization of acyclic bisdienes to cyclized enedienes defines a novel strategy for the stereoselective cyclization of certain unsymmetric bisdiene substrates to form functionalized five- and six-membered rings. The full details of our investigation into this novel cycloisomerization, including our observations on substrate requirements, stereoselectivity, the influence
