In the present Letter we report the development of efficient continuous flow chemistry conditions for the scalable preparation of ketones. This transformation is achieved via nucleophilic addition of Grignard reagents to the corresponding nitriles and imine hydrolysis by means of in-series plug flow reactors.

Arylnitriles have been found to participate in cross-coupling and amination reactions via nickel-catalyzed activation of the C-CNbond. With the development of these synthetically useful transformations, arylnitriles can now be considered along with aryl halides and sulfonates as viable substrates for these types of reactions.

Two new hydrido ironcomplexes (2 and 4) were synthesized by the reactions of (4-methoxyphenyl)phenylketimine ((4-MeOPh)PhCNH) with Fe(PMe3)4 or FeMe2(PMe3)4. The molecular structures of complexes 2 and 4 were confirmed by X-ray single crystal diffraction.
