A novel Pd catalyst was designed by affording Pd2+ salt on the surface of functional reduced graphene oxide (FRGO), providing a new cheap and stable in situ prepared palladiumcatalyst for C–C coupling reactions, including the Heck reaction, Suzuki reaction, C–H bond functionalization reactions of thiophenes, and terminal alkyne C–H activation and homocoupling.

The present invention relates to a series of substituted para-biphenyloxymethyl dihydro oxazolopyrimidinones of formula (I) as defined herein. This invention also relates to methods of making these compounds including novel intermediates. The compounds of this invention are modulators of metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluR), particularly, mGluR2 receptor. Therefore, the compounds of this invention are useful as pharmaceutical agents, especially in the treatment and/or prevention of a variety of central nervous system disorders (CNS), including but not limited to acute and chronic neurodegenerative conditions, psychoses, cognition deficit disorders, convulsions, anxiety, depression, migraine, pain, sleep disorders and emesis.

A large number of new liquid crystals incorporating the 2,5-disubstituted thiophene ring have been prepared and their mesomorphic behaviour studied in order to systematically investigate the correlation between the molecular structure and mesomorphism of thiophene derivatives with different shapes, polarisability and polarity. As a consequence of these investigations we have prepared a new class of liquid crystals incorporating a 2,5-disubstituted thiophene ring and a conjugated trans-carbon–carbon double bond in the terminal chain. These novel thiophene derivatives are the first liquid crystals incorporating a 2,5-disubstituted thiophene ring to exhibit a nematic phase at room temperature. This enables the flexoelectric coefficients of a bent-shaped molecule to be measured directly and at room temperature for the first time to the authors' knowledge. Many of these new thiophenes exhibit a high birefringence and a high nematic clearing point and are of potential
use as components of nematic mixtures in LCDs.
