    Described are compositions of at least one material represented by a pyrano[3,2-c]quinoline structure, a pyrano[3,2-c]quinolinone structure or mixtures thereof. The pyrano[3,2-c]quinoline structure is characterized by having a nitrogen atom at the 6-position ring atom and an oxy-substituent at the 5-position ring atom. The pyrano[3,2-c]quinolinone structure is characterized by having a substituted nitrogen atom at the 6-position ring atom and an oxo-substituent at the 5-position ring atom, the nitrogen atom substituents being hydrogen, aliphatic substituents, cycloaliphatic substituents, aromatic substituents, heteroaromatic substituents or a combination thereof. Both of the pyrano[3,2-c]quinoline and pyrano[3,2-c]quinolinone structures are characterized by having two substituents at the 2-position ring atom, each substituent being independently chosen from aliphatic substituents, cycloaliphatic substituents, aromatic substituents, heteroaromatic substituents or a combination thereof, provided that both substituents at the 2-position are not aliphatic. Alternatively, the two substituents at the 2-position can combine to form a spirocyclic group, provided that the spirocyclic group is not norbornylidene or bicyclo[3.3.1]9-nonylidene. The ring atoms have been numbered according to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry rules of nomenclature starting with the 1-position ring atom being the oxygen atom of the pyran ring and numbering counterclockwise therefrom. Also described are photochromic articles that contain or that have coatings or films containing at least one of the novel compositions or combinations thereof with other photochromic materials.

    A process for producing a living radical polymer characterized in that a vinyl monomer is polymerized with use of an organotellurium compound represented by the formula (1) and an azo type polymerization initiator, and the living radical polymer obtainable by the process wherein R 1 is C 1 -C 8 alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl or an aromatic heterocyclic group, R 2 and R 3 are each a hydrogen atom or C 1 -C 8 alkyl, and R 4 is aryl, substituted aryl, an aromatic heterocyclic group, acyl, oxycarbonyl or cyano.

    The invention relates to methyl methacrylate characterized in that at least one portion of the carbons thereof is biologically sourced and, more specifically, in that it contains between 0.2×10 −10 and 1.2×10 −10 wt.-% of 14 C in relation to total carbon weight according to the ASTM D6866 standard. The preparation method comprises the use of acetone cyanohydrin as a raw material, said acetone cyanohydrin being obtained by condensing cyanohydric acid on acetone, and the methyl methacrylate is prepared using a process involving the addition of methanol. According to the invention, at least one from among the acetone, cyanohydric acid and methanol is obtained by means of a reaction or series of reactions involving the biomass.

    This invention relates to novel UV absorbers, their methods of preparation, their use in stabilizing polymers and polymers so stabilized against the degradative effects of UV light. The novel compounds of formula I are oxamides which are substituted on one or both nitrogens with a 2-hydroxy-3-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)benzyl group. The 2-hydroxy-3-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)benzyl groups are efficient UV absorbing groups and the oxamide group contributes additional light stabilizing, heat stabilizing and metal complexing properties to the compounds. The compounds have low-volatility and are especially useful as UV stabilizers for engineering resins processed at high temperatures.
