Substituted benzyl ethers have been widely used as readily manipulatable protecting groups for organic synthesis. It is known that electron-rich para-methoxybenzyl (PMB) ethers can be selectively deprotected over benzyl or other electron-poor benzyl ethers under oxidative conditions.
