  Liquid detergent compositions containing additive levels of organo-functional polysiloxanes are disclosed. The siloxanes are derived from poly-di-short-alkyl siloxanes by substituting part of the alkyl moieties by specific organo-functional groups, preferably amino-groups, with the proviso that the degree of substitution is in the range from 0.01 - 0.07. The liquid compositions herein unexpectedly provide through-the-wash softening benefits comparable to what can be obtained from the utilization of conventional cationic rinse-softeners.

These compounds are characterized by a very good complexation power for metal cations and can be used in detergents and cleaning agents, in oil extraction and for water softening.

  Products of the reaction of propane-2-sulphonic acid p-cresylester with sodium butoxide in butanol are the sodium salt of propan-2-sulphonic acid, di-n-butyl ether, p-cresyl-n-butyl ether and p-cresol. The reaction proceeds via propane-2-sulphonic acid n-butylester which is formed from the starting compound by an elimination-addition (sulphene) mechanism. The elimination step is an E1-cB reaction.
