  Rapid access to pharmaceutically important scaffolds, including salicylamides, dihydronicotinamides and dihydrothio/dihydroselenopyran--3-carboxamides, are described. The [5+1]-annulation- reactions of α-alkenoyl-α-carbamoylketene dithioacetals with carbon, nitrogen, sulfur and selenium nucleophiles give the title- compounds in high yields under mild conditions.
