5-nitrosalicylato complexes have been prepared and their mode of thermal decomposition investigated by thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, and mass spectrometry. Abstract Trihydrates of copper(II) 5-chloro-, copper(II) 5-bromo-, and copper(II) 5-iodosalicylates and dihydrate of copper(II) 5-nitrosalicylate have been prepared and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis and IR studies. A drug form is provided for increasing the oral absorption of β-lactam antibiotics such as the penicillins, cephalosporins and related chemical species by the oral administration of said β-lactam antibiotics in a suitable pharmaceutically accepted excipient to which has been added a hydroxy aryl or hydroxy aralkyl acid or salt, amide or ester thereof. The hydroxyaryl or hydroxyaralkyl acid or salt, amide or ester thereof is present in the drug form in quantities sufficient to be effective in enhancing the rate of oral absorption of the β-lactam antibiotic.

Chemiluminescent materials are provided that include an encapsulated oxalate-containing composition that includes a core portion and a polymeric coating, a peroxide source, and a fluorescent dye. The core portion includes an oxalate; a polymerizable component composition that polymerizes upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation; a photosensitizer; and an ultraviolet screening agent. The polymeric coating layer surrounding the core portion comprises a polymer derived from the polymerizable component composition. A fluorescent dye may be intermixed in the oxalate-containing composition, intermixed with the peroxide source, present in the chemiluminescent material as a separate dye layer or particle, or present within another component of the chemiluminescent material. A method for making the chemiluminescent material is also provided.
