Functionalized a-hydroxy carbonyl compounds were prepared from various aldehydes and allylic acetates via a multicomponent reaction, which were catalyzed by N-heterocyclic carbene and Pd catalysts in one pot. (c) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
The Barbier‐type allylation of aldehydes and ketones can be carried out with both unsubstituted and γ‐substituted allyl bromides using only a catalytic amount (0.1 equiv.) of In metal in [bmim][Br].
Irradiation of benzil in acetonitrile in the presence of (E)- and (Z)-but-2-enyl-, pent-2-enyl-, and hex-2-enyl-tributylstannanes afforded the corresponding (E)- and (Z)-homcallylic alcohols, respectively, with complete retention of the original double bond configuration in good yields.
