Tetra-co-ordination of nickel (II)–III visible and ultra-violet absorption spectra of NiX2·2PR3 complexes

Visible and ultra-violetabsorptionspectra have been taken for complexes of the type NiX2·2PR3 (X = NCS, Cl, Br; R = n-propyl, i-propyl, s-butyl, cyclohexyl). An assignment of the various transitions is suggested. Frequency shifts depending on alkyl substitution are shown to be due either to steric effects or to non-bonded group perturbations.
NiX 2 ·2PR 3类型的配合物(X = NCS,Cl,Br; R =正丙基,异丙基,仲丁基,环己基)具有可见光和紫外吸收光谱。建议分配各种过渡。取决于烷基取代的频移显示是由于空间效应或由于未键合的基团扰动引起的。

High yield syntheses of (iPr3P)2NiX (3a–c), (where X = Cl, Br, I) were established by comproportionation of (iPr3P)2NiX2 (1a–c) with (iPr3P)2Ni(η2-C2H4) (2). Reaction of 1a with either NaH or LiHBEt3 provided (iPr3P)2NiHCl (4), along with 3a as a side-product. Reduction of (iPr3P)2NiCl (3a–c) with Mg in presence of nitrogen saturated THF solutions provided the dinitrogen complex [(iPr3P)2Ni]2(μ-η1:η1-N2)
