An interesting reductive dimerization of organic thiocyanates assisted by benzyltriethylammonium tetrathiomolybdate, [(PhCH(2)NEt(3))(2)MoS4], 1, leads to the formation of the corresponding disulfides in high yields.

A convenient and rapid method for the synthesis of symmetrical disulfides from alkyl or aryl alkyl halides using sulfurated borohydride exchange resin (SBER) under anhydrous conditions is described. Selective transfer of sulfur to an alkyl group rather than an aryl group is achieved using this methodology.

A packed bed reactor with oxone has been employed for selective oxidations of sulfur compounds. Various sulfides containing different functional groups are efficiently oxidized to the corresponding sulfoxides without formation of sulfones or other side products.
