According to their method of synthesis these 1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes underwent subsequent reactions to give interesting products, and in the presence of proper dienophiles gave the corresponding cycloaddition products. HSO mixed with silica gel (1:1) by weight produces a white powder which is an effective catalyst for the conversion of carbonyl compounds to their corresponding phenylhydrazones and 2,4-dintrophenylhydrazones under solvent-free conditions.
