A simple and efficient protocol for cyclization between formamidines and ethyl isocyanoacetate has been described in the absence of metal catalyst and solvent. A series of 1-substituted-4-imidazolecarboxylates were synthesized in moderate to good yields with DABCO as base additive.

It is shown that aliphatic iminophosphoranes react with dimethylformamide to produce N,N-dimethyl-N′-alkylformamidines.

This communication describes the synthesis of a new class of N-hydroxyguanidine (NHG) pro-drugs which release nitric oxide (NO), triggered by the action of γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ-GT), and have potential for the treatment of acute renal injury/failure (ARI/ARF).
