  Object of the invention are photographic emulsions including silver halide grains dispersed in gelatin and at least a methine dye spectral sensitizer associated with said grains, including in association therewith a supersensitizing orstabil- izing amount of polymeric compound having an aminoallylidenmalononitrile moiety. The invention further relates to photographic elements, in particular radiographic elements, comprising said emulsions.   In situ generated alkynylaluminum reagents have been utilized in a [4 + 2] cycloaddition with 2-pyrones bearing a Lewis basic donor. The reactions proceed at or below room temperature and with complete regiocontrol. This one-pot method affords diversely substituted aromatic compounds under very mild conditions.
