Described is a composition for the production of artificial marble or granite, with excellent aesthetic properties and patterns and tonalities which cannot be found in natural materials, containing a polymerizable poly(allyl carbonate) of a polyol and a mineral filler. The mineral filler is of the carbonate type in the case of marble, and of the silicate or silica type in the case of granite, and is in the form of particles of which 40 to 100% by weight have a particles size of at least 0.5 mm.
A process for the production of artificial marble and granite is also described. The artificial marble and granite so produced requires a limited quantity of polymerizable poly(allyl carbonate) binder, has excellent aesthetic properties and high aging resistance, making it suitable for outside use.
