A diastereoselective synthesis of highly substituted isoindolo[2,1-a]quinolin-11(5H)-ones containing three continuous stereocenters is reported. The reaction is based on a Povarov-likereaction between enamide and a N-aryl-acylimines, affording the fused heterocyclic products in high yields and diastereoselectivities.
