  The effect of 19-substituents on the stereochemistry of hydrogenation of 19-substituted 5α-cholestan-3-ones was examined. It has been shown that hydroxyl, acetoxyl, and methoxyl groups have some effect in increasing 3α-alcohols on hydrogenation over platinum in ethanol compared with the case of the un-substituted ones.
