The present invention relates to a foamable polyetherimide resin. These foamable polyetherimides have an effective amount of a chemical blowing agent which decomposes at a temperature equal to or greater than the glass transition temperature of the polyetherimide resin and does not have an adverse effect on the polyetherimide.
A foamable composition comprises in admixture (a) a high molecular weight thermoplastic resin in particulate form and an effective amount of (b) a foaming agent therefor comprising a pumpable liquid dispersion comprising (i) a solid blowing agent, (ii) a liquid carrier, and, optionally, (iii) a thickener. The liquid dispersion can be pumped directly into the hopper of a foam molding machine eliminating the need to pre-mix pelletized concentrates of the solid blowing agent.
Foamable thermoplastic resin compositions are provided having vinyl chloride polymer, a graft copolymer having a superstrate grafted to a substrate wherein the superstrate has alphamethyl styrene, unsaturated nitrile, and unsubstituted styrene therein, and the substrate is a butadiene rubber, a rubber-free copolymer having alkylmethacrylate, vinyl aromatic, and unsaturated nitrile therein, and a chemical blowing agent. The foamable thermoplastic resin composition may be coextruded with a non-foamed thermoplastic resin skin to produce a coextruded rigid foamed structure by a process of coextruding the skin and foamable thermoplastic composition. The composition and process are useful for making coextruded rigid foam structures which are useful in rigid foam applications such as foamed pipe and foamed sheet.
A method of producing a foam is disclosed. The method includes providing an epoxy-containing compound, a cationic catalyst, an optional blowing agent, and at least one additive. The method further includes combining the epoxy-containing compound with the cationic catalyst, the optional blowing agent, and the at least one additive, wherein the epoxy-containing compound and the cationic catalyst react to polymerize the epoxy-containing compound to provide the foam having a density from about 0.3 lbs/ft3 to about 5.0 lbs/ft3 as measured by ASTM D1622. Further disclosed are the foam and a method for installing the foam.

A method and apparatus for detecting chemiluminescence from polymer samples at various temperatures are described. The method enables rapid parallel determination of the heat-stability, light-stability, and oxidative stability of polymer samples as a function of their composition. The method is particularly useful for determining the stability of polymer compositions forming combinatorial libraries.
