Such supplements may be economically obtained by adding to a fermentation whole harvest mash containing antibiotic trans-BM123, or to a filtered fermentation broth containing antibiotic BM123, at a suitable acid pH, a complexing agent selected from synthetic tanning agents, alkali metal alkyl sulfates and dioctyl sulfosuccinate salts, whereby to precipitate out a complex of the antibiotic with said complexing agent; and recovering the precipitated complex. These complexes aid in increasing the growth rate and feed efficiency when fed to arm animals, either alone or in combination with carriers.
