Derivatives of 5β,7β-cyclosteroids have been prepared by photochemical means from cholesta-4,6-diene and by methylene addition to β-norcholesterol acetate. The synthesis of both 3- and 4-substituted derivatives of 5β,7β-cyclocholestane has been accomplished. With the synthesis of 3-substituted 5β,7β-cyclocholestanes, the first derivatives of any 5,7-cyclosteroid, related to naturally occurring 3-substituted
