  A novel, metal-free bromo-thiolation of internal alkynes with hydrobromic acid and disulfides has been developed. The reaction is promoted by commercial-grade nitric acid and is used to construct a series of unexplored β-bromoalkenyl sulfides in moderate to good yield.
